What we expect of a Journeyman Electrician
- Must have current South Dakota & Sioux Falls Journeyman license.
- Be willing to teach apprentices.
- Be able and willing to work well with others, including apprentices, general contractors, contractor’s representatives, homeowners, inspectors, and any other trades on the job, and always work in a professional manner.
- Be able to go after materials, if needed, after calling in order first.
- Must complete/check all paperwork in relation to the job.
- Must follow the National Electric Code and comply with State and local building codes when they install systems.
- Be willing and able to answer any questions the homeowner, general contractor, contractor representatives, and other trades on the job site may have.
- Be willing and able to operate and run any equipment that is necessary for job completion. (Trencher, backhoe, bucket truck, etc.)
- Be willing to learn and follow instructions.
- Be able to lift approximately 60 pounds.
- Be willing and able to get into tight crawl spaces and attics to complete job duties.
- Must communicate on a professional level all the time and work well with others.
- Be willing and able to work at least 40 hours per week.
- Measure, cut, and bend conduit, using measuring instruments and hand tools.
- Maintain tools, vehicles, and equipment and keep parts and supplies in order.
- Perform skilled laboring duties related to the installation, maintenance, and repair of a wide variety of electrical systems and equipment.
- Disassemble defective electrical equipment, replace defective or worn parts, and reassemble equipment, using hand tools.
- Thread conduit ends, connect couplings, and fabricate and secure conduit support brackets, using hand tools.
- Examine electrical units for loose connections and broken insulation and tighten connections, using hand tools.
- Be willing and able to clean job sites, vans and shop.
- Dig trenches or holes by hand for the installation of conduit or wire.
- Trace out short circuits in wiring, using a test meter.
- Transport tools, materials, equipment, and supplies to the worksite.
- Have all hand tools needed to complete job tasks.
- Be able to foresee what needs to be done and keep all apprentices busy 100% of the time.
